Waseca’s history

Waseca is a village in west central Saskatchewan, in the Rural Municipality of Eldon No. 471. It sits along Highway 16, the Yellowhead Highway, east of Lashburn and west of Maidstone.

The community incorporated as a village on March 15, 1911. Its name is probably borrowed from Waseca, Minnesota. A former resident of the area, who lived there from 1923 to 1942, recalled being told something different: that Waseca was an Indigenous name meaning "looking upwards," given when the CN railway station was built.
